Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who has millions of followers throughout the world and is considered no lesser than a god in India showed he s also human by commiting a very silly mistake in todays episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati.(2/12/2012).he didnt seem to know the name of the disease he s been suffering from almost for a thirty good years.
The story goes like this-a contestant named Vineet Kumar occupied the hot seat and told us that he s playing for his younger brother who s suffering from sickle cell anaemia which he said is incurable with medicines and the only hope for him is a bone marrow transplant which ll cost a huge 20 lakhs. So he wants to win at least 20 lakhs to be able to help his brother.he also went on to say that sickle cell anaemia is a type of THALASEMIA.But sickle cell anemia isnt a thallasemia but a defect in the synthesis of Red blood cells in which the blood cells are defectively formed and so they lose their shape when they are exposed to high concentration of Carbon di oxide. This blocks the arteries and causes pain due to failure of circulation to the organs. So the main symptom is pain in joints and bones. This is a congenital disease and is caused by a genetic defect....may be he was misinformed by the doctors. These indian doctors rarely have the time and patience to inform and educate their patients properly. They only care about their time and money, although i do agree there are a few very good and caring doctors in India
To this our AMITABH BACHCHAN said he ALSO has thallasemia since a few years and he used to get tired easily because of his THALASSEMIA.He used to get tired easily while doing routine tasks like combing his hair or his feet used to get tired after walking for some time or he his eyelids used to close while he s awake because of tiredness and by gods grace his thalassemia has gone in to remission and he s feeling better nowadays.
Now, how can thalassemia be present since a few years when its a congenital disease...a person is born with thalassemia and he cant get it like typhoid or common cold and people with thalassemia dont have any trouble in keeping their eyelids open or combing their hair and people with thalassemia rarely live above 40 years unless they get a transplant.
Big B was probably referring to MYASTHENIA or to be precise-myasthenia gravis and its a well known fact that he s having this auto immune disease since about thirty years.Big B first got to know about this disease while recovering from the accident on the sets of Coolie when he complained of tiredness and fatigue on doing activities requiring repeated use of the same muscle and also drooping of the eyelid and difficulty keeping it open.
The doctors diagnosed him to be suffering form myasthenia gravis after he was found positive for Anti Acetyl Choline receptor antibodies in his blood.Basically this is a neurological disease in which the healthy nerves arent able to stimulate the muscles due to damage to the nerve muscle junction by antibodies produced by the patients own body. The disease can be very debilitating and is sometimes characterised by remissions and aggravation.Patients have drooping eyelids and difficulty to focus the eyes like while reading a magazine.Other muscles are also affected and the disease is usually progressive unless proper treatment is initiated and continued and if you observe Big B closely you can see the drooping eyelids like in the film Sarkar. On the sets of Kbc he wears thick rimmed glasses to cover up these eyelids and prevent the sleepy look.
The standard treatment for this disease can cost 1 to 1.5 lakhs per month but there are other less effective cheaper alternatives. Our BigB is probably receiving very effective treatment from the most specialised drs in the country and he must to keep the hopes of millions of people alive to see him performing and entertaining them daily.
Big B is a very good human and a great actor and i wish he keeps conquering this disease and keeps living this great good life entertaining all of us day after day and inspiring us to follow his great footsteps
Long Live BigB!Long live the great Amitabh Bachchan!!!
